The word "learnings" is thrown around a lot at my job. I enjoy the word, so I am applying this to the summer that just flew by.
Going to a NASCAR race in South Carolina is both thrilling (fast cars!) and frightening (confederate flags in the year 2010). This accurately summarizes the experience:
Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights is one my favorite albums of the 2000s but I have held a grudge against them for being incredibly boring live after one experience six years ago where they just stood there in pretty lights. I take that back after seeing them at Music Hall of Williamsburg where they played a great show and successfully lifted the grudge I held. They still do love pretty lights though:
If I lived in North Carolina I would get really fat, really fast. A standard meal at local fast food chain Cookout: a cheeseburger with a corndog and chicken nuggets IN ADDITION to a milkshake. The beginning is enjoyable but then one will quickly feel terrible in many ways. But Bojangles sure has some delicious breakfast biscuits (and Borounds!).
I am too old to go to festivals surrounded by 225,000 people. Nice summary of why here.
I have seen Arcade Fire live nine times and they still make me feel like my heart is going to explode like the first time I saw them at Bowery Ballroom. Their MSG show was spectacular:
